Somalia's information minister Abdullahi Elmoge Hersi who held a press conference today in his office addressing media reforms used terminologies mostly associated or used by Alshabab extremists.

Alshabab Islamist always blame a person who they disagree with as a nonbeliever or accuse the person for working for foreign interests.

During the press conference, the minister said that he was called from abroad and the caller asked him if it was true that the ministries new regulations require a journalist to have attained 40 years and above in order to qualify.

The minister said that such misleading questions with no bases propagandas created by people who worked for "the interests of foreigners" and were not independent.

" We are aware that among us are those who work for foreigners and in turn get some funds, but be informed that we are an independent nation and independent government, self-reliant and we believe in our own constitution". If you work for foreigners then keep on getting what income you get but in this country we have our own rules that guide us and the factor of foreign individuals don't bring any change to what we have outlined for the media laws". Said Mr. Elmoge.

If you interpret what the minister meant in other words, he views individuals who work with or work for foreign companies be it individuals or companies are slaves and not independent.

Mr Elmoge needs to answer two very important questions here.

Is he not a cabinet minister in the same government which operates on foreign funds that have been donated? If yes, then what is he if you apply or use his on terminology?

Secondly, doesn't the ministry of information, his ministerial docket receive millions of funds from foreign aids? Didn't foreign groups or countries donate the equipment's which are used in the ministry of information?

This comes at a time when the information ministry introduced new laws to regulate media outlets in the country. Many journalist in Somalia are worried about the current laws which might bring more harm to the already dangerous field in which they work under.
