Kenyan Secretary of Foreign Affairs Amina Mohamed and her Nigerian counterpart Olugbenga Ashiru signed three bilateral agreements in Abuja Tuesday (July 16th) to strengthen ties between the two countries, the Kenyan government announced in a press release.
The agreements stipulate the establishment of a Joint Commission for Co-operation, consultations between the Kenyan and Nigerian ministries of foreign affairs, and co-operation between the Foreign Service Institute of Kenya and the Foreign Service Academy of Nigeria.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan were present at the signing. The two heads of state also agreed to establish more direct structures for communication to combat international terrorism, drug trafficking and money laundering.
Kenyatta and Mohamed have been in Abuja since Sunday for an African Union Summit on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
