HE controversial Bangla pesa currencies are now under forensic examinations by officers from the Central bank, a court sitting in Mombasa was told yesterday.
Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko directed CBK to provide information in a case in which six people have been charged with transacting business using Bangla Pesa.
The court was told the case could not continue as the office of the DPP was awaiting the findings by CBK concerning the use of the complimentary currencies in Mombasa.
The trial failed to start for the third time following application for adjournment by the state for the trial in which five Kenyans and an American scholar have been charged with possessing the currency.
The accused--Bangladesh slum residents Alfred Osigo, Paul Mwania, Caroline Dama, Rose Auma, Emma Odhiambo and American scholar Oliver William--asked for a speedy trial.
Through their lawyer Leonard Shimaka, the six did not oppose the application for adjournment.
They are accused of having the currencies at Bangladesh slum on May 29.
The six were arrested by detectives from the Makupa police station following the publication of the launch of the complimentary currency by the Taifa leo on May 28.
