The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has appealed to the international community to intensify their assistance to bridge the financial gap of the $25 million needed for the provision of critical logistical support for the Mali election.
The appealed came yesterday in Abuja at the opening of the 43rd ordinary session of the authority of ECOWAS heads of states and government devoted to finding lasting solutions to the multifarious political, economic and security challenges facing the sub-region.
In his welcome address, President Goodluck Jonathan, while appealing to ECOWAS international partners, was optimistic that they will sustain their support for Africa's economic development in a mutually benefitted relationship.
"I wish to use this opportunity to appeal to the international community to intensify their assistance to bridge the financial gap of 25 million dollars for the provision of critical logistical support, in particular air assets, deployment of as many international and national observers for the 28 July 2013 elections in Mali," he said.
