Gambia Volleyball Women Team Leave for Senegal

Gambia Volleyball Women's team left Banjul yesterday for Dakar, Senegal, for the 2014 FIVB World Volleyball championship qualifiers set to commence today, Thursday, 18 through Sunday 21 July 2013.

Six countries, namely the host nation Senegal, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone and The Gambia, are vying for the three places in the 2014 FIVB World Volleyball Championship.

In an interview with Pointsport, the president of The Gambia Volleyball Association (GVBA), Musa Cassa Taal, said the team travelled with 12 players and five officials, adding that the teams that take first, second and third positions will qualify for the 2014 FIVB World Volleyball Championship to be hosted in Poland.

Taal added that The Gambia's volleyball team will return home on Sunday 21 July 2013.

Taal also announced that Gambian volleyball player Amadou Jarju, who is currently at the University Conference De Dakar, has been awarded as the best volleyball player in the Senegalese National Volleyball League after his instrumental performance in the league. Author: Lamin Darboe
