Kaduna — The Coalition of Closed Unpaid Textiles Workers Association held a protest in Kaduna calling on the authorities to pay their outstanding benefits as most of their members have become social nuisance.
The group disclosed that some of their colleagues have survived the 10 years of neglect but cannot solve the problems of their families, their wives and daughters have now become social nuisance.
"Medication is a luxury to us. Our children no longer go to school and have become professional scavengers. We recorded more than 2000 deaths of our members and families, more than any natural disaster in Nigeria," the chairman of the group, Comrade Wordam Simdik told Daily Trust.
Flanked by orphans and widows of the decease, Siimdik called on the 19 Northern state governors to come to their aid and revive the textiles industries which according to him, will employ many youths and reduce crimes in the society.
"Since the closure of Kaduna textile, Arewa textile, Nortext and finetex limited 10 years ago, life is difficult. The closure of these companies also pave way to massive vandalism as some of the machines are been carted away in broad day light," Simdik added.
