Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations Office at Geneva Ambassador Wafaa Bassim held an international press conference to clarify the real image of the latest developments in Egypt and reassure the world that Egypt is moving forward towards genuine democracy.

The measures taken by the army after deposing former president Mohamed Morsi has contributed to the transfer of power to the president of the Supreme Constitutional Court and laying out a clear-cut road map with definitive timetable towards amending the constitution and holding parliamentary and presidential elections.

Bassim said that it is normal that there are international worries over the path of democracy in Egypt, especially because many have mistakenly linked between the presence of the Armed Forces in the scene and democratic path.

She noted that the international community has started to understand the response of the Armed Forces to the demands of the Egyptian people who could not stand the failure of the former president in meeting their aspirations.
