Mauritania: Great Achievement for Mauritania

"The Mourabitounes" have achieved a feat on Saturday, February 19 very late in the evening by qualifying for the 3rd edition of the CHAN, to be held next January in South Africa.

In front of their audience, they eliminated Senegal. Mauritanian football had never been such a feat. This is the first time in its history that Mauritania national team will play in a major continental competition.

Moulaye Ahmed opened the scoring just before half-time and Taghiyoullah Denne doubled the lead just after the restart to finally give victory to their comrades, the two goals of the day clearing the defeat two weeks ago in Dakar (0-1).

Senegal participated in the first two editions in Côte d'Ivoire and Sudan, but therefore will not make it to the third edition. Semi-finalist in 2009, they did not pass the first round in 2011.

Mauritania joins the other four countries already qualified, South Africa, the host country, Ghana, Libya and Morocco. Other teams play their qualifying matches next weekend.
