Liberia: Teahjay's Sentenced Challenged

Sinoe County Senator Cllr. Joseph Nagbe, has described the recent incarceration of Superintendent J. Milton Teahjay by the House of Representatives as unconstitutional and politically motivated.

Speaking at a news conference in Monrovia over the weekend, Sen. Nagbe said the Constitution of Liberia is clear on Contempt Powers of the Legislature, noting that under Article 44 of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia, the action taken by the House on the contempt charge against Supt. Teahjay is proper, but was very quick to indicate that enforcement of the action by using its Sergeant -At-Arms to take Teahjay to prison breached the Constitution.
