One demonstrator was shot dead and 16 others were injured after clashes broke out in Cairo's Tahrir Square between supporters and opponents of deposed president Mohamed Mursi, a security source said on Monday.

Two were injured with live ammunition, 11 with shotgun pellets, the source told the Middle East News Agency.

The injured were taken Mounira Hospital for treatment, the source added.

Police forces arrested 20 rioters, two of which had shotguns, during the Qasr al-Nil Bridge clashes, the source stated.
