Ethiopia: Can Haile Gebreselassie Break the Political Record?

opinion

Ethiopia's track legend, Haile G.Selassie, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, multiple world 10,000m champion and a holder of more than 27 world records in distances ranging from 1,500m to marathon. Shining for more than a decade in many world athletics races, he is considered the greatest distance runner in history and even dubbed as "a man from another planate."

No doubt, he is an unforgettable man; a symbol and a living example of Ethiopian athletics that made our national flag fly high at the international level many times. Haile, however, is not only an athlete but also a businessman owning a cinema, in Bole area, and a luxurious resort on the shore of Lake Hawassa, among many others. He has also recently launched a 70 million Br coffee plantation, covering 1,500ha, in Sheka Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR).
