Lilongwe — Black Missionaries Band returned home on Friday July 19 after touring Botswana for 10 days.
Speaking to Malawi News Agency in a telephone interview, the band leader Anjiru Fumulani said that the tour was sponsored by Society of Malawians and PP promotions of Botswana.
"We were invited to Botswana by Society of Malawians where they organized a show for us on July 13 at the Gaborone International Conference Centre (GICC) and Sunday July 14 at the Fair Grounds a show organized by Botswana's PP promotions," he said.
He went further to say that, during the tour to Botswana they were privileged to be featured on Botswana Television (BTV) where they talked about their success and how the music industry is fairing in Malawi.
Fumulani said that they have learnt a lot during the tour, citing that Malawian Music is rich with talent considering the fact all the musicians in Botswana use CDs and Deejays during shows.
"A lot of people were surprised that as a band everybody was playing an instrument and singing at the same time, which was not the case with them. All the musicians used CDs which gave us the strength to say that we Malawians are talented.
"We have also learnt that people in Botswana do not really support their musicians as it is the case here in Malawi where people love us and support us all the way," explained Fumulani.
According to Fumulani, the band is expected to leave the country for Ireland on 10 August where they are expected to play during the Miss Malawi Ireland Pageant on August 17 an event which is organized by Malawians living in Ireland.
On August 23, the band will hold a show where Malawians living in Ireland will pay to watch them play.
The band has also planned to tour South Africa in September where they will hold 6 shows.
"We will tour South Africa starting from September 24 where will perform 3 shows in Johannesburg, 1 show in Durban, Cape Town and Pretoria," he said.
Fumulani said that the regular tours to outside countries have helped their music career to move on a fast track.
He then said that the credit should go to Malawians and almighty God for their success throughout the years.
The Black Missionaries Band released their latest Album Kuimba 9 in June this year which already selling like hot cakes on the market with 10,000 copies sold already.
