Buenos Aires — The Angolan Foreign minister, Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, said Tuesday in Buenos Aires, that the relations between Angola and Argentina established in 1985 "are good and have been growing more and more".
The minister was speaking during a meeting he had with his Argentinean counterpart, Héctor Timerman, as part of two days official visit he is paying to Argentina since Monday.
The Angolan Foreign minister said Argentina can help Angola to reach a bigger socio-economic development and in training of staff, including a growth in the field of science and technology, through a transfer of science and technology for agriculture, agro-farming and agro-food, given its known technological development potential.
To Georges Chikoti, Argentina's social, economic and technological development is relevant in the partnership with Angola and enables to develop the relations of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
The minister recalled that Angola is recoding a considerable economic growth and has been an important partner in its political region, being also a member of the Economic Community of Central Africa State (ECCAS), International Commission on the Great Lakes Regions (ICGLR), Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and of the Gulf of Guinea Commission.
"All this accumulated experience has enabled Angola to work in the consolidation of its sub-region, which permits to share with Argentina, a friend country, that has been showing interest in this region of the African continent," he stated.
On the occasion, Georges Chikoti asked for Argentina's support for Angola to become a UN Security Council non-permanent member for the 2015-2016 period.
On the first day of the official visit, minister Chikoti, met with his local colleague, Héctor Timerman, and signed with the Argentinean secretary of Culture , Jorge Coscia, an accord that will bring the two peoples and countries closer.
The minister also met with the minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Lino Barañao, with whom he discussed matters related to the said sector and identified areas for cooperation, such those of education, agriculture, fisheries, health, information technology and social communication.
Georges Chikoti was also received in audience by the Argentinean vice president, Amado Boudou, with whom he talked over matters of common interest and bilateral cooperation.
On Tuesday, the Angolan diplomat is to meet separately with the secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, and with the secretary of Internal Commerce, Guillermo Moreno.
He is also to meet with senator Daniel Filmus, who is also the president of the local Senate's External Relations Commission, and with the MP Guillermo Carmona, who is the head of the External Relations Commission of the Chamber of MPs.
The ministerial delegation that includes the head of the America Division of the Foreign Ministry, Cuandina de Carvalho, the Angolan ambassador to Argentina, Hermínio Escórcio, and high ranking officials of the Ministry of Science and Technology, is expected back in the country on Wednesday.
