A SECTION of private developers in Kisumu have asked the county government to evict those who have encroached in their land. Some have since written to the executive secretary for Physical Planning, Roads and Public Works Vincent Kodera to intervene.
The Star saw a letter by city-based lawyer representing one of the developers. "Our client purchased undeveloped property and now wishes to develop it to achieve its full potential. Our client wishes to play his role in building a bigger and greater Kisumu County," it reads in part.
"However, our client's development plan has been impeded and delayed by Jua Kali artisans who moved into the property and have now declined to move out to allow our client develop the land parcel citing unavailability of space among other reasons," the letter reads.
The developers have taken the move after the government threatened to repossess idle lands which have not been developed. Kodera said they will follow the law to take over land which have not been developed. He also said structures on road reserves will be demolished.
Kodera urged their owners to move before eviction orders are enforced.
