Zimbabwe: Hotel Sues Zifa Over Debt

Zimbabwe Football Association was yesterday sued by Selous Hotel for failing to settle a bill amounting to more than US$4 000 when they camped for preparations for the African Youth Championship games last year. The Harare-based Selous Hotel is demanding a balance of US$4 541, five percent interest and the cost of the lawsuit from Zifa after they failed to settle their full hotel bill of US$7 341. Circumstances are that last year on October 12, Zifa approached Selous Hotel for accommodation for the Congo Brazzaville Under-17 soccer team who had visited the country for a match with their Zimbabwean counterparts.

This was ahead of the African Youth Championship second round, first leg qualifier which was to be played at Rufaro the following day. Zifa, which had the mandate of taking care of the Congo team, approached the hotel and agreed on a fee of US$7 341 from October 12 to 17. Zifa only managed to pay Selous Hotel an amount of US$2 800 and promised to settle the arrears. However, Zifa failed to honour the agreement and refused to pay the bill. This prompted the hotel to seek legal recourse to recover the money.

The two parties were both represented and agreed for an out of court settlement.

Presiding magistrate Ms Tendai Rusinahama ordered the two parties to file their consent papers and bring them to court tomorrow.
