Gambia: U.S. Three Million Ultra Modern Cargo Complex Foundation Stone Laid

The vice president and minister of Women's Affairs, Her Excellency Dr. Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy, Tuesday presided over the official launching and laying of the foundation stone of the ultra modern cargo complex under the Trade Facilitation Project at the Banjul International Airport. The event was part of events marking the 19th Anniversary of the July 22nd Revolution.

The project is financed at a tune of US$3, 115, 400. If completed, it will be operated and managed by the Gambia International Airlines. The funding of the project was obtained from the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) project that gave US$2, 494, 200, while Gambia government contributed US$621, 200. The overall objective of the project is to facilitate trade and increase national participation in international trade. Expectations are that with this complex, the status of the Banjul International Airport will be significantly enhanced to meet international safety and security standard in handling cargo and passenger travel, thereby increasing the number of airlines serving and accessing cargo in The Gambia.
