South Africa-based Daniel Adongo is set to be included in the Kenya 15s team to next year's Rugby World Cup qualifiers.
Head coach Jerome Paarwater said yesterday the six- foot- six 112 kilogramme Southern Kings franchise forward will be an integral part of his plans for next year's World Cup campaign.
"I have spoken to Daniel and he has committed himself to playing for the team next year. He brings a lot of talent and mobility to the forwards and having played at the top level in South Africa and New Zealand in the Super Rugby circuit. He will be an asset to the team," added Paarwater.
Adongo an alumni of Strathmore school can either play lock or flanker. Adongo furst joined South African franchise side Sharks in 2010 before moving on to play for the Pretoria based Blue Bulls in 2011. He made eight appearances for them in the Vodacom Cup before being released from the contract after six months. Adongo then went to ply his trade in New Zealand joining Counties Manukau . He played eight matches winning the championship and subsequent promotion to the championship. Adongo then left New Zealand to head back to South Africa where is currently playing for the Southern Kings in the Super Rugby championship
Paarwater said he will zero in on the tight five and make them stronger for next year in terms of technique and size.
"For us o qualify for the World Cup we must have a very strong tight five because they create the platform. I have already spoken to the chairman on the need for technical expertise to be extended in South Africa for them in order to match Namibia and the other team s we will be facing for the World Cup."
