Angola: Foreign Minister Speaks About Angola External Policy

Buenos Aires — An academic session at the Argetina Council of International Relations (CARI), in Buenos Aires, on the "Angola External Policy", marked the last point on the working agenda of the official visit of the Foreign minister, Georges Chikoti, to Argentina.

During his presentation of the topic, minister Georges Chikoti related the history of the country, since independence on 11 November 1975, when Angola started diplomatic regions and the consequent opening of representations in various countries, with a view to

defending the national interests and Project its influence in the international arena.

Georges Chikoti also presented a retrospect of the victories scored by the people of Angola, under the leadership of the president of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, which marked an important political era in the history of the country in the post-independence period, particularly in the 1988/2012 period.

The official mentioned some actions recorded such as: the signing of the New York Accords (USA), for the pull out of the South African troops from the Angolan territory, and the Bicesse Accords (Portugal) for peace in Angola.

The establishment of the multiparty system in the country, the first multiparty election I September 1992, the independence of Namibia, the end of apartheid in South Africa, the Peace Accord signed on 4 April 2002, the 2008 legislative election, the approval of the Constitution of the Republic in 2010 and the general election in 2012.

These events constitute indelible mark in the annals of the recent history of the country which has been experiencing a remarkable economic growth (the fastest growing in the world), which are factors that have contributed to elevate the condition of essential reference today, he said.

The agenda for the first official visit of minister Georges Chikoti to the Republic of Argentina, included for the same day (July 23) separate business meetings with the secretaries of State for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Lorenzo Basso, and Internal Trade, Guillermo Moreno.

During the meetings, the parties identified areas of common interest for cooperation in agriculture, micro-genetics, livestock, installation of a laboratory of cattle vaccines and food, as well as staff training in those sectors.

The parties also exchanged ideas concerning fisheries and sharing of information on the control of illegal activities in territorial waters, from a marine space control system aiming at a greater protection of the natural resources.

The health, higher education and transfer of technology were, among others, seen as high potential areas for cooperation between Argentina and Angola, under the South-South cooperation.

For the implementation of some agricultural projects, the Argentine Government announced the opening of a credit line for Angola, worth Akz 10,000 million (about USD 100 million) to benefit Angolan and Argentinean businesses.

Minister Georges Chikoti also held courtesy meetings with senator Daniel Filmus, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations, and with Guillermo Carmona, president of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Chamber of MPS.

In parliament, Georges Chikoti also met with the president of the Chamber of MPs, Julián Dominguez, who briefed him on the functioning of the House.

The president of the Chamber of MPs, Julián Dominguez, expressed the interest of the House he heads to hold contacts with the Angola's National Assembly, for the creation of the Group of Angola / Argentina Parliamentary Friendship.

The relations between Angola and Argentina are good and were established in 1985. Since then they have been on the rise, according to the Angolan Foreign minister.
