The Catholic Archdiocese of Monrovia has appointed Mr. Frank Sainworla, Jr as the new station manager of the Catholic-owned Radio Veritas.
The station is expected to be officially opened early next month, with Archbishop Lewis J. Zeigler saying the first Mass.
A statement from the Catholic Archdiocese said the station has been running on a three-hour-a-day test transmission from 5pm to 8pm since June 17, 2013.
The statement said with the reopening, the radio station is expected to run its regular programs, including afternoon news break and evening news update. Mr. Sainworla, who first worked for the Catholic Media outfit as News Director for six years until his departure in 2008 for the West Africa Democratic Radio, WADR in Dakar, Senegal, has been charged with the responsibility of overseeing the re-vamping and restructuring the "new Radio Veritas".
The Catholic-run station was shut down by the Church in Monrovia in October 2012 and it paid some staff to enable the re-vamping and restructuring to make it serviceable and people-oriented in terms of content and programs.
In his appointment letter signed by Catholic Archbishop Lewis J. Zeigler dated June 9, 2013, Mr. Sainworla has been urged to uphold the values and aspirations of Radio Veritas.
Accepting the position, Mr. Sainworla assured the Catholic Church that he was prepared to work with the team to revive the station which had in the past been renowned for its commitment to pursuing the truth, being the voice of the voiceless and promoting good journalism and high ethical standards.
Mr. Sainworla maintained that his acceptance was made after sober reflection and based on the high esteem he personally has for the office of the Archbishop and in honor of his predecessor, the late Archbishop Emeritus Michael K. Francis.
