Liberia: Watch Out for a Drama!

Watch out for a radio drama that portrays how some war affected people have allowed the effect of the crisis to traumatize them while others have worked over the trauma and are moving on with their lives.

The main characters of the play Lucas, a Belgium citizen; Marcus (Liberian) and Mercy (Liberian) all of them staff of Mededcins Sans Frontieres (MSF) went to the ST. Peter Lutheran Church immediately after the soldiers walked away from the gruesome massacre. Lucas loved to Mercy, who was a nurse.

But the extent of death at the church compound affected Lucas so much that he was losing his relationship with Mercy while Marcus was going on with his life after recovering from the trauma.

The St. Peter's Lutheran massacre was perpetrated on July 29, 1990 with accusing finger being pointed at the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), an allegation the AFL has since denied.

The church was the site of a horrible massacre during the Liberian Civil War leaving approximately 600 to 700 people (mostly women and children) slaughtered in the sanctuary. Pastors of the church have said after the massacre, the bodies were piled up in the sanctuary.

Reports say the church had a school of approximately 700 children.
