Liberia: 'Reasons for My Resignation Is Non Issue'

The chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) Madam Frances Johnson-Allison has termed as diversionary tactics those calling for her resignation.

She said the call for her to resign is intended to sway the Commission's fight against corruption.

There have been calls in recent times for the resignation of Madam Johnson-Allison for reportedly violating the Public Procurement Concession Commission (PPCC) law to purchase items for LACC.

But the tough-talking LACC boss, in a telephone interview on Truth FM radio Wednesday said the Commission did no wrong relative to the purchase of items including vehicles for LACC.

She said the violation which the LACC is being accused of is trivial and has no basis.

Madam Johnson-Allison pointed out that the so-called violation has to do with wordings for a document of bid to purchase vehicles and other items for the Commission.

She explained that instead of having Express of Interest (EOI) in the bid document, the commission had Invitation to Bid, which she said, is not a substantive issue or violation.

The LACC boss said the calls for her resignation is not about violating the PPCC law but those who do not want for the Commission to continue its fight against corruption.

Madam Johnson-Allison said it is sad to see people against the fight against corruption and want to use non issue to make it out of issue.

However, she said the Commission would not be deterred by unscrupulous individuals who are bent on pillaging the country's resources and do not want for the Commission to go after them.

"These tactics will not sway us away from the fight against corruption," adding that the Commission is even more determined to fight corruption.
