Liberia: Three Charged With Illegal Possession of Arms

The Monrovia City Court has charged three youngsters of illegal possession of fire arms and ammunition for lethal use, contrary to report that they were armed robbers.

Police arrested suspects Alfred P. Harris, Saah Joseph and Papa Johnson on 24th Street and later turned them over to the court for prosecution. They were initially thought to be facing attempted armed robbery charges.

A writ of arrest dated July 22, 2013 says the suspects "connived, conspired purposely in violation of section 17.11 of the New Penal Law of Liberia were found in possession of an AK-47 Raffle."

The court refers to the act as "wicked, illegal and intentional in violation of the law cited above." Lawyers representing the accused have already tendered a bond for the accused since the charge is not armed robbery.
