Mutula Kilonzo Junior has been declared the winner of Makueni County's senatorial election following the confirmation of results from 914 polling streams, Kenya's Capital FM reported Saturday (July 27th).

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission thanked Makueni voters for a smooth, peaceful poll.

"There was no violence and very few if any cases of electoral malpractices and as a commission I just think our 100 days of tribulation have turned into 100 days of jubilation," said Deputy Commission Secretary Wilson Shollei.

Complaints have been raised over the fairness of Kilonzo's last-minute addition to the ballot, and former politician Agnes Ndetei has filed a notice of appeal with the High Court, saying Kilonzo's Wiper Democratic Movement should have been blocked from fielding another candidate after the unsuccessful nomination of his sister Kethi Kilonzo.
