Angola: Cuban Ambassador Reiterates Commitment to Assisting Angola

Huambo — The Cuban ambassador to Angola, Gisela Beatriz Rivera, Friday in central Huambo province, reiterated the commitment of her country to assist Angola in various domains with a view to the country's sustainable development.

The diplomat was speaking during a ceremony that marked the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Barrack, on 26 July 1953, that marks the Cuban revolution day.

On the occasion, she said the Angolan people can count on the support of Cuba.

The official recalled that over 4,000 Cubans are in Angola working in the areas of health, education, construction, agriculture, culture and others.

She also said that currently the Cuban medical assistance covers monthly an average of over 240,000 patients suffering from various illnesses, not to mention the results of the Benguela ophthalmological centre that has already attended over a half a million patients.

In the domain of education, she said over 5,600 students in the health career are assisted in the five faculties that count on the Cuban methods, having already graduated 300 Angolans.Gizela Garcia Rivera also said that 240,000 illiterate persons are trained in Angola with Cuban methods.
