In 2005 he admitted being a high school dropout, a true life confession that politically cost him so dearly, placing him second to Harvard's trained public servant Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in the runoff after he took a convincing lead in the first round.
But George Weah's determination to get in active public service has propelled him to leap from a dropout to earning a Master's degree in Public Administration from Devry University in Miami, Florida, the United States of America. He acquired a Bachelor of Science in Business Management in 2012 from the same Devry, bringing great pride to his many followers and personal fulfilment.
Weah on Saturday, July 27 made another achievement in his academic sojourn when Liberians, who had gathered in the Coral Spring of the Arts hall for the occasion screamed as the Flag of the Republic was displayed amongst flags of several other nations whose nationals came out alone with the Peace Ambassador.
Weah was the only Liberian amongst the hundreds of students who received degrees in various disciplines. He has announced his intention to contest for the senate during the 2014 mid-term senatorial poll, having failed twice for the presidency.
A FIFA World Player of the Year 1995, African Player of the Year 1994, 1995 and 1989, European Player of the Year 1995, and African Player of the Century, Weah ran unsuccessfully for president in the 2005 election, losing to incumbent President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in the second round of voting.
In 2011, he was running mate to former United Nations envoy Winston Tubman on his (Weah's) Congress for Democratic Change party's ticket, but lost for the second time.
