Kampala — Electricity distribution company, Umeme, recently added Bank of Baroda to its list of Touchpay Solutions partners.
The electricity company also reported that there is increased usage of cashless bills payment every month contributing up to 70 percent of their total revenue collection.
Charles Chapman, the Managing Director of Umeme said Touchpay Solutions was a result of a partnership that would improve service delivery to a wide range of customers.
With the presence of the facility, Umeme customers will be able to avoid disconnections caused by delayed payment reconciliations.
"I am extremely pleased that we are proving gto be a utility company that is at the core of Uganda's economic development and working towards finding common ground for common good," Chapman stated.
He adds "In the past, if you made your bill payment in the bank it took a couple of days for that payment to be reconciled with Umeme accounts. With our Touchpay solutions and Bank of Baroda, that will happen. We believe there will be very many happy customers out there from this moment on,"
Touchpay Solutions involves payments at banks like Bank of Baroda both over the counter and through Automated teller Machines and payments by internet banking.
The Bank of Baroda Managing Director, Ashok Kumar Garg said the bank's customers would be able to pay their electricity bills throughout their branches countrywide. He says it's a great satisfaction for the bank to offer such a service to their clients.
Meanwhile Chapman revealed that utility service provider is in an expansion phase directing most of their earning into further investment and meeting their supplies costs.
Chapman disclosed that 30000 prepaid meters across the country ahead of the official launch in August this year. He said the prepaid program has been widely accepted.
