Kenya: KWS On the Spot As Wild Animals Roam Freely in the Kisumu Cbd

THE Kenya Wildlife Service is on the spot over wild animals roaming around in Kisumu County.

The animals have caused panic among the residents especially those living along Lake Victoria and the Kisumu's Impala Park. At the weekend, a warthog said to have escaped from the Impala Park wandered into the central business district three kilometres from the sanctuary.

The animal was spotted by residents near the Diamond Trust Bank before KWS officials were called in. There was a large crowd around the bank to watch as the officials chased the the beast around the banks parking lot and returned it to the sanctuary. Last week, a 70-year-old man, Richard Okungu was killed by a hippo in Central Nyakach ward.

His body has not yet been recovered. The Ward Representative, Elijah Omondi said the victim was attacked at Kodul Beach. "We have asked KWS officials from Kisumu Station to come and drive the hippos away so we can continue with the search of the victim's body," Omondi said.
