Kenya: Three Feared Dead in Boat Accident

THREE fishermen drowned when their boat capsized in Lake Victoria off Matoso beach in Nyatike district at the weekend.

Maurice Ogur, who is leading the search for the men said concern was raised over the safety of 19-year-old Wycliffe Otieno, Abert Otieno, 38 and Ogayo Mbego, 30, after they failed to return from their Friday morning fishing trip.

"When they didn't dock on the beach on Saturday morning their relatives got concerned and a small team was dispatched to search for them," he said.

The boat was found on Saturday evening drifting in the lake with the fishermen's personal belongings but no sign of the three.

Ogur said more search parties comprising nine boats and forty people including police officers was still out looking for the bodies of the missing men.

Family members of the missing have been camping on the shore of the lake to for news of their loved ones.
