Namibe — The drought currently hitting the southwestern Namibe province might be mitigated with the drilling of water boreholes, the provincial governor said.
Rui Falcão Pinto de Andrade was speaking at a mass rally over the weekend in the municipality of Kamucuio, some 230 kilometres north of the city.
The Government official said the solution to the drought problem requires the drilling of more water boreholes in various regions to water the fields and the cattle.
"We must start internalising that the problem of the drought is not resolved by bringing bags of maize, rice or any other product, but by seeking possible solutions," said the official.
During the meeting, the locals asked for more schools, health posts, teachers, electricity, hosing and water for the cattle.
Kamucuio has an area of 7,452 square kilometres and a population of 140,680 inhabitants mostly cattle breeders and subsistence peasants.
