El Salam Camp — The displaced inhabitants of El Salam camp in Bielel locality, South Darfur, have reportedly been subject to a spate of beatings and robberies, with not even camp leaders left unscathed.
"The pro-government militias have launched widespread assaults and lootings against the displaced persons entering and leaving El Salam camp," said Sheikh Adam Mahjoub Tabaldiya, who regularly reports to Radio Dabanga.
"Mohammed Hussein Abdullah and his brother Hussein Abdullah were beaten, SDG750 ($170) was taken from Mecca Abdullah, SDG800 ($180) from Abdullah Adam Bakhiet, SDG200 ($45) pounds from Adam Ibrahim, while I was personally robbed of a sack of sugar," Sheikh Tabaldiya told Radio Dabanga.
He said that all transportation between the camp and nearby state capital Nyala, as well as Umm Gunja, Tebeldina and Bielel has been blocked by pro-government militias stationed on the roads. He appealed to the government authorities and Unamid to clear the militias from the area.
