Nigeria: Bauchi Records Two New Polio Cases

The polio control team in Bauchi State on Sunday reported two new cases of polio outbreak in Bauchi and Toro Local Government Areas of the state.

Malam Musa Mohammed, the officer in charge of the fight against polio disease in the state, announced this discovery in Bauchi.

Mohammed told newsmen that the cases were discovered this month and that a team of personnel have been moved to the affected areas with adequate drugs to attend to the situation. He said administering polio vaccines to children was being repeated in the affected areas.

Mohammed called on parents and guardians to allow medical personnel to have access to their children and wards.

"Two cases of polio outbreak have been discovered in Bauchi and Toro Local Government Areas. We have sent medical personnel and adequate vaccines to the affected areas, where the exercise will be repeated," he said.

The state government has embarked on enlightenment campaign on the importance of polio vaccine. The Emir of Ningi, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu, is also involved in the campaign team that has been visiting local government areas of the state.
