Nigeria: Katsina Gets 4, 416 Hajj Seats, Drops 211 Old Timers

Katsina — Katsina State has confirmed that it got 4, 416 seats for this year's hajj exercise, just as it dropped 211 old-time pilgrims.

Briefing newsmen yesterday, the executive director of the board, Alhaji Aminu Danbaba said, 68 of the 211 old timers have collected

their money back, while the remaining 143 deposited theirs with the board against next year's hajj.

Alhaji Aminu said Katsina State's allocation was slashed to 4, 416 seats as against the initial 5, 520, leading to the loss of 104 seats. He said those who deposited their money would have automatic seats next year.

He announced that the minimum fare for the exercise is N639, 496. 52, while medium and maximum are N675, 996. 52 and N753, 996. 52 respectively.

He said the three seats have basic allowances of $750, 100 and $1, 500. He charged depositors to pay their balances in time to avoid last minute rush. He also appealed to them to pay their money through the seven designated zonal centers of the board.

The executive director pointed out that accommodation for Katsina pilgrims have been secured in Makka and Madina, adding, "Pilgrims uniforms and suit cases have also been procured."

He said other preparations for this year's hajj that have been completed include registration and collection of deposits at local government level, appointment of preachers and guides as well as general and pregnancy screening for female pilgrims.
