Liberia: Cassava Processing Plant Dedicated in Cape Mount

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry has dedicated a newly constructed cassava processing plant project valued over US$30,000 in Grand Cape Mount County Daniel's Town, Garwala District.

Speaking at the dedicatory ceremony Tuesday in the county, Commerce Minister Axel M. Addy said the project is intended to reduce the hard Labor citizens endure in marking garee (farina) for survivor.

The minister noted that Grand Cape Mount County is the highest garee-producing county in Liberia.

Citizens of the county, he stated, will no longer go through hard labor to produce their usual food, garee.

He also promised the ministry's commitment in reaching out to other counties that are involved in producing garee.

Minister Addy meanwhile called on the leadership of the Town to use the machine properly in order to pave the way for other counties such as River gee, Bomi, and Gbarpolu among others, benefit.

"Indeed, being here today it is to try experiment for looking forward for more implementations. This is a small scale project implemented by the Ministry and its partners. If it is well taken care of, we promise to reach others counties," the Minister stated.

Meanwhile, Liberia Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, during the dedication of the building, called on citizens of the Town to take good care of the materials given them by the Ministry, adding that garee is next to rice in the country.

"Let me give thanks to the Ministry for the great work done and ask for their continued commitments to people in others counties," he said.
