Liberia: Poor Celebrations Mars 26th in Margibi

Margibi County on Friday July 26, 2013 joined other Counties in celebrating the Nation's 166th Independence Day in the County's Capital City. The celebration which was held at the Kakata City Hall was poorly attended with about 40 persons out of the over 200,000 inhabitants in attendance.

Officials that attended the program include the County Inspector Tarr N. Sackie, Margibi County Gender Coordinator Madam Danielette D. Asilton, and representatives of the civil society movement of Liberia Margibi Chapter, Margibi legislative caucus and UNMIL Civil Affairs, amongst others.

Yuth and women groups, former government officials, Paramount Chiefs and Commissioners as well as the County's Culture troop were not in attendance.

Making remarks during the celebration, a representative of the Civil Society Movement of Liberia Margibi Chapter, expressed disappointment over the poor attendance during the celebration.

Mr. Alfred Jebo said the movement did not only attribute to the poor attendance to the lack of nationalism or patriotism but also the lack of proper planning.

Mr. Jebo stated that the people who were given the task to perform did not perform well when it comes to the mobilization aspect, something he described as unfortunate.

He added that for Liberia to be on par with other developing nations there is a need for all Liberians to recognize the dignity of each other and respect one another as well so as to promote the development of the nation.

For his part, the County Inspector of Margibi County Tarr N. Sackie described the attendance as being "very great".

He told reporters that people might have left the Hall before the arrival of the press, but our reporter who covered the event said the 4th Estate arrived prior to the start of the program.
