Over 30 staff of the Corporate Banking Department of Standard Chartered Bank have contributed money to the tune of Shs 4million and bought 100 baby kits to new mothers at Mulago Hospital.
The initiative was geared towards those who are most needy and may not afford the basics to look after their babies.
"This is money saved from our pockets. It is not money from the bank," said Andrew Asira who is Standard Chartered Bank's Head of Corporate Banking (or Origination & Client Coverage) during the donation exercise over the weekend.
Asira said, most times the bank's staff engages in employee volunteering initiatives where they raise their own resources and use these to impart skills and donate for the benefit of communities where the Bank operates. The Bank supports the communities under the pillars of youth, education, health and the environment to drive the Bank's Sustainability Agenda.
Each baby kit donated contained two pairs of baby bed sheets, two pairs of socks, two nappies, plastic pants and a set of baby cloths. Staff of the department also engaged in the actual distribution process of the kits.
The Principal Nursing Officer in charge of the 5C maternity ward, Joyce Muziki, applauded the bank for the donation and urged it to donate again because there are many mothers who cannot afford such facilities.
