Former Tusker Project Fame star Amileena Mwenesi has began a female empowerment initiative to give a chance to budding female musicians. Dubbed the Girl Affair, the programme allows for six girls to undergo training for six weeks. This platform sharpens their musical talent in preparation for a show to be held on August 17, 2013 at the Michael Joseph Centre.
Amileena told Word Is, "These six girls were finalists at an extensive audition held by Liberate Agency and now go through vocal, fitness and choreography training. Liberate Agency also provides mentorship to the girls in a bid to sharpen their personal and life skills. The aim of The Girl Affair is to groom consistent, principled female artistes."
She added, "Liberate Agency is a visual and performing arts company aimed at providing a platform into the arts for young, dynamic, vibrant individuals who are interested in the field. The Girl Affair is the first of an annual experience which will serve as the Agency's corporate social responsibility program. It is our hope that through experiences such as "The Girl Affair" we can help young girls find and hone their full potential, teaching them to respect and live up it, thus improving their abilities to express themselves, think more creatively and connect with people."
The six girls made their debut at the recently concluded Miss World Kenya finale held at safari park where they performed alongside songstress Amileena Mwenesi.
The six are Gathoni Mwaura, a kindergarten teacher and students Waithera Chege, Wamuyu Chege, Shirlyne Mmbone, Prisca Ojwang, and Janet Nyambura Muigai.
