Hundreds of Isiolo residents yesterday signed petition land adjudication in the area.

The residents joined NGOs in the area who mobilised young people who went to door to door collecting signatures and ID cards from the locals to frustrate the adjudication.

Imams and other local leaders condemned the planned exercise saying the proposal by the district Land Adjudication and Settlement office to establish an adjudication section at Oldonyiro was illegal.

Waso Trust Land coordinator Hassan Shano accused the Ministry of Lands of trying to sneak in the adjudication without thorough consultation and the blessing of the locals.

He said the move by the ministry of land to carry out the process ahead of the proposed resort city was bent on grabbing part of the strategic pasture grazing area.

Shano said the land adjudication act, was clear and that the public must be involved from the onset before conducting such exercise.

The district Land adjudication officer Mr Amos Musyoka had given notice on the adjudication of Oldonyiro division Isiolo County.

In a letter copied to director of lands adjudication, surveys,Governor and other relevant bodies, the officer declared the proposal for the adjudication of the area.

The said area commence from at a point where in Ewaso Nyiro river enters Isiolo County from Laikipia, Tale hills all the way to Rendile hills.
