Kenya: Pianist Kathy Kiragu Admitted to Berklee On Dean's List

Kathy Kiragu has earned a placement on the Dean's List for the spring (May) semester at The Berklee College. Kathy who is a passionate jazz pianist was eligible for this honour after achieving through her hard work the expected grade point.

In a past interview, Kathy told Word Is, "I'm the first woman locally to play jazz in a male-dominated genre of music." She added that she would like to pursue her passion for music further by "getting a PhD from Berklee."

Berklee College of Music was founded on the revolutionary principle that the best way to prepare students for careers in music is through the study and practice of contemporary music.

For more than half a century, the college has evolved to reflect the state of the art of music and the music business. With more than a dozen performance and non-performance majors, 15 minors, and six pending graduate programmes, not to mention a diverse and talented student body representing more than 80 countries, and a music industry "who's who" of alumni, and alumni and faculty who have won 221 Grammy awards.
