Ethiopia Fosters Its Foreign Relations in 2012/13

Briefing the press on current affairs on Tuesday, spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dina Mufti, said remarkable improvements have been made in 2012/13 in terms of national image building.

In the stated period, the nation has broadened the scope of its foreign relations to cover diverse sectors including technology transfer, investment, trade, tourism, peacekeeping and joint border security, among others, Ambassador Dina said.

Efforts have been made to let Ethiopia standout as beacon of freedom, peace and development during the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of OAU/AU, he said.

The celebrations have served as inspirations for further development and democratization endeavors in Ethiopia and in Africa at large. Ethiopia has been working to narrow its differences with Egypt as regards the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam based on the principles of equity and rationality, Ambassador Dina said, and wished for peaceful resolution of the current stalemate in the North African nation.

According to Ambassador Dina, the government of Ethiopia is also working to curb illegal human trafficking including through awareness raising and job creation.

Ethiopia would transfer its peacekeeping mission in Somalia to AMISOM as soon as the latter is well equipped to discharge the duty on its own.
