Somalia: Puntland Parliament Approves Budget Conversion to U.S. Dollars

Puntland's regional parliament Sunday (July 28th) approved a bill to convert the administration's budget into US dollars after days of debate, Somalia's Garowe Online reported.

Under the new bill, tax and revenue collection systems, expenditures and government employees' salaries will all be recorded in US dollars, said Speaker of Parliament Abdirashid Mohamed Hirsi.

The legislature also endorsed the creation of a new district in Sool region and approved the recent appointment of Minister of Information Ahmed Sheikh Jama.
