Recently, Iryn Namubiru has been making headlines first for her drug trafficking saga in Japan, and then over an alleged relationship with NTV news anchor Gabriel Epenu, to whom it is said she even dedicated her latest single Only You.
This, however, has nothing to do with the married mother-of-two's love life or her new song but, rather, an old one. Three years ago, Iryn swayed the country with Begombeko. The Paddyman-produced song topped charts in Uganda and went on to help the singer scoop her second female artiste of the year accolade at the PAM awards.
Now, early this year, a Madagascar-based musician, Lianah's song titled Walawala surfaced online with the same instruments, punctuation, feel, vibes and ad libs like those in Iryn's Begombeko. The song has since been shared and retweeted on social media, going viral in Uganda; fans are confused on whether it is Lianah or Iryn that plagiarized the song.
It turns out that Lianah's Walawala was produced and released in 2013 and the Walawala video was posted on January 4. Iryn has decried Lianah's lazy act and challenged her to produce the original demos of her song.
Bugembe postpones Mpangira concert:
Nince Henry has been in a struggle to find an appropriate date to hold his maiden concert; he has clashed with organizers of Simba's Enkuuka, Konshens and Alaine concert and Bebe Cool over concert dates.
Then mid-July, the Mali Yangu singer landed on the weekend of September 13, but just before he could roll adverts, he was told that this too was booked by Pastor Wilson Bugembe. An enraged Nince this time wasn't ready to switch dates and vowed to go on with the concert.
Being a man of God, Bugembe tries to avoid controversy, let alone bruise a friend; so, he has decided to postpone his album launch from September 13 to 20th, just a week later. This gives Nince a chance to hold his Mpola Mpola concert without competition for fans at Hotel Africana.
Bugembe says he is postponing his concert to support a fellow musician. He has even gone on to help Nince lure a bigger crowd for his concert. Nince Henry has since been praising the pastor for his exemplary gesture.
Bugembe will hold his concert at Equatorial hotel parking lot on September 20. Some maturity, Pastor!
Bebe Cool in trouble:
Singer Bebe Cool may be rejoicing upon being reunited with his 18-year-old son Allan, but he is in trouble as it is rumoured that a Kenyan artiste has threatened to drag him to court over music theft.
The Kenyan artiste only identified as Dusky claims that Bebe Cool 'stole' his beats for his song Joanita. Dusky claims Bebe got the beats of Joanita from his (Dusky) song Risasi. But the Boggolako singer is not moved and gave Dusky a go-ahead to do as he wishes.
Bobi Wine parties with Bounty Killer:
After releasing a high-rated collabo with Jamaica's Mr G, Bobi Wine, who is representing Africa at the Jam Jam festival, has become a party animal, hanging out with the likes of Mr G, Bolton Wanderers, Ricardo Gardener, Toni Mata and Bounty Killer.
The Jam Jam festival will feature Jamaican superstars like Pop Corn, Beanie Man, Mavado, I Octon, Mr G, Bounty Killer and Luciano, among others.
"This is the greatest partying day on earth; partying with Jamaicans; partying with dancehall superstars is all I have been dreaming of... mbasse!"
"My Jamaican journey is historical, never before has an African artiste gone this deep int Jamaica. I give thanks to God and my Jamaican brothers and sisters for showering me with all this love." Amen. But we are sure other African artistes have penetrated deeper into Jamaica, naawe!
Mega Dee relocates to USA:
Singer Mega Dee has had it with all these Kampala concert flops and relocated to Citrus Heights in Sacramento, California, USA. He used his new location to spit venom and curses over scribes who have given him bad press.
"I pity and sympathize with those boys who trade nonsense about me all the time. I have overgrown such stupid news about me," he attacked a local tabloid. "Sincerely I hate those boys to da bone and would wish them the worst in life. Most of them are denting our careers because we can't give them money and personally I have helped many and some have even stolen my cameras..... 99% about me has never been right."
Well, from good scribes: good luck, General.
