Egypt: U.S. Embassy Asks Citizens in Egypt to Avoid Protests

The United States embassy has warned its citizens who currently reside in Egypt from the possibility of confrontations in marches planned on Tuesday by the Muslim Brotherhood toward foreign embassies.

In an emergency message published on its website, the embassy said that

traffic movement is likely to be impacted significantly by the protests and that it would be closed to the public at two in the afternoon.

The embassy asked its citizens to avoid areas where large gatherings may occur as a general practice for their safety, as peaceful events or demonstrations may escalate into violence and turn confrontational.

It also urged them to monitor local news reports and to plan their activities accordingly.

The embassy also called on U.S. citizens to review their personal security plans and remain alert to their surroundings at all times in Egypt.
