Gambia: Six Months Old Child Needs Urgent Overseas Treatment

Ebrima Gitteh, a 6 month old boy has been suffering from abnormal swollen head since birth. The father Ismaila Gitteh explains the suffering his little son is currently undergoing and that they have been reportedly visiting the hospital constantly for months after which they were told by the hospital management that the condition of his child cannot be handled by them and recommended for an overseas treatment. Below is the medical report from Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital.

According to the MEDICAL REPORT ON EBRIMA GITTEH on examination, the young child, not in any obvious distress, playful, Not pale, anicteric, acyanosed, afebrile to touch. Enlarged head, Dysmorphic face, low set ears, head circumference 42cm (normal 38cm), not oedematous and no lymphadenopathy. Heart Rate: 134 beats per minutes, normal heart sounds. Respiration: 38 cycles per minute equal chest expansion adequate air entry.

Chest is clear.

Abdomen, full soft moves with respiration, not tender no palpable organomegaly, bowel sounds present. Conscious, alert, active, normal muscle bulk, tone and power. No sign of motor deficit. Enlarge head, fontanels widely opened, normo tensive, positive crack pot sign.

Abnormal right thumb, deformed with clawing of fingers. The medical board at the Edward Francis Small hospital in Banjul recommend overseas treatment possible shunt which is not performed here. The father Ismaila Gitteh is appealing for any individual or organization to help secure the life his little son.
