Egypt: U.S. Contacts Egypt's Vice-President, Ashton to Discuss Developments

US State Secretary John Kerry made phone calls with Egypt's Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei and EU top diplomat Catherine Ashton to discuss the latest developments in Egypt.

Kerry also contacted his UAE, Turkish and Qatari counterparts to discuss the current situation in Egypt, said State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki on Monday 29/7/2013.

The US support efforts exerted by Ashton to defuse the tension in Egypt to set a stage for a comprehensive political process, she said. Kerry reiterated call on all parties in Egypt to exercise self-restraint, she said.

All parties, including Muslim Brotherhood, would have a role during the coming period, Psaki said.
