Gambia: Mr Ebou Gaye Invites Government Intervention

The chairperson of Babylon village Development Committee (VDC) Mr.Ebou Gaye on Saturday, 27 July told Foroyaa in an interview that they are set for government intervention in their village to conduct investigation on this land matter so that the people of Babylon especially women and children can be free from all attacks and also get their freedom of movement which has been tampered with over the years due to a series of alleged unexpected attacks.

Mr. Gaye said that the problem they are facing is unbearable as they have been facing similar attacks even before the recent attack and this is not good for the inhabitants especially the vulnerable ones. He stated: 'These ongoing issues are a concern to our people and as rightful and patriotic citizens of this country, our people are positively ready to share with the Office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) all available information to help him do his investigation in settling this matter.'

He further stated that true citizenship requires recognition of the rules and laws that the nation has laid down and seeking to live by them. According to him, a life of prayers, must be matched with a life of consistent obedience to the laws of the country. 'Everyone enjoys living in safety without threat; there is a way to achieve greater enjoyment of life by seeking counsel of others with wisdom, experience and knowledge. If we can apply the counsel given, then we may make our lives better and safer,' he asserted. He went further to explain that every community needs better living and free movement.

He said the people of Babylon village are in a situation which requires immediate government intervention technically to set their people free and make their lives much more established. He finally urged the government to quickly intervene by investigating this matter as women and children could be the victims since many previous attacks occurred when the village youth were away from home.

He explained that this is why the village authorities are concerned, Readers would recall that earlier, the village head of Mandinaring Mr. Faa Ceesay also made a similar call on the government to intervene to put an end to the problem. He said many problems have been arising which is not a good sign of peace and stability. He urged the government to intervene by setting up a special committee that would investigate this growing problem. He also said all the stakeholders in the conflict should come together with the government officials and they should determine who is right or wrong after which the law shall take its course.
