Angola Rules Out Sending Troops to DRC

Luanda — Angola has ruled out any military participation in the ongoing peace process in the DR Congo.

This was said on Tuesday in Luanda by the Foreign minister, Georges Chikoti, during a press conference under the preparation of the Sixth International Conference of Heads of State and Government on the Great Lakes region, set for Wednesday in Nairobi, Kenya.

He said that Angola will assist with ideas, opinions and casually in the reconstruction of that neighbouring country.

The official also reminded that they have a tripartite negotiation co-ordinated by Angola, in which is included by South Africa and DRC, where they will work in various development projects in the DRC.

"Angola will not send troops", said the minister.

According to him, there is a military barrack based in Goma, DRC, composed by 1.200 soldiers from Tanzania, South Africa and Malawi that will remain in the DRC to avoid any kind of military action.
