Gambia: Health Ministry Repairs Damaged Health Centre in CRR

Officials of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, headed by the minister, recently visited the Central River Region (CRR) settlement of Kuntaur where they assessed and repaired the community's major health centre, which was damaged by a recent windstorm.

A windstorm that recently struck the community damaged the staff quarters and part of the perimeter fence of its major health centre. It also claimed the life of a health labourer called Daraman.

Speaking to the Daily Observer Monday, the deputy permanent secretary for Administration and Finance, Omar Sey, explained that the team, after assessing the damages, was ordered by Minister Honourable Balla Garba Jahumpa to kick-start the renovation immediately. He added that repairs on the affected parts of the health centre have now been completed.

DPS Sey seized the opportunity to thank the regional health management team of CRR for its timely intervention in providing the health staff and their families with temporal accommodation. He also informed that the delegation extended their condolence to the family of the late health labourer Daraman. He said the Ministry assured the staff of the Ministry's unflinching support to enhance maximum productivity.

Sey revealed that from Kuntaur, the minister and delegation proceeded to Basse major health centre to see the level of preparedness of the health staff in the Upper River Region (URR) ahead of the malaria season.
