Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has responded to the reported demand made by some governors on President Goodluck Jonathan to remove him as national chairman of the party.
He said the governors in making the demand have not shown respect for constituted authority.
Last week, governors Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Magatakarda Wamakko of Sokoto, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa and Sule Lamido of Jigawa went to visit prominent leaders in the country including President Jonathan where they were said to have made some demands on the President including the removal of Bamanga as national chairman of the party.
Bamanga in a statement by his special assistant on media, Prince Oliver Okpala, said as far as he is concerned, the governors are the ones overheating the polity by dramatising the few problems affecting Nigeria's democracy and advised them to desist from doing so.
He said much as the Constitution guarantees certain fundamental freedom to individuals, the governors should have known that there are constitutional limitations to the freedom explaining that as leaders they are expected to show wisdom and good counsel in their comments.
Bamanga said there is no doubt that the governors' peripatetic vision contributed in no small measure to overheating the polity saying he operates an open door policy and it is unfortunate that the governors are demanding his removal when he has made immense sacrifices for the peace and progress of the party.
