Liberia: Victor Smith Heaps Praise on Western Cluster -For Spending a Million U.S. Dollars on Klay and Guie Town Bridges

The Acting Minister of Public Works, Victor B. Smith has heaped praises on Western Cluster for spending over a million US dollars to construct the Klay District and Guie Town bridges in Bomi County.

The two major bridges, which links the provincial city of Tubmanburg, were constructed under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works, financed by the Western Cluster and Contracted by CHICO. The Ministry of Public Works, said Smith, provided the technical details and know-how, the design and drawings of the two bridges, Western Cluster provided the funding, and the people of Bomi County provided the man power to implement the work.

Speaking over the weekend to reporters shortly after the dedication of the two bridges at Klay Town in Bomi County, the Acting Public Works Minister, Victor B. Smith, said he is highly delighted for the opening of the bridges and lauded the efforts of the Western Cluster for all the help it has given to the Ministry and the government for such an initiative.

Mr. Smith said for a company to make available over a million US dollars to construct two major bridges in one of the main corridors of the country is a good gesture that is worthy of commendation. Smith said that his ministry looks forward to working on more projects with the Western Cluster.

The Acting Minister indicated that it was necessary for Western Cluster to construct the two bridges as the company will be using them to transport and ship their iron ore from Bomi County to Monrovia for shipment to Europe.

"As Liberians, we are excited for this kind of relationship. I hope we keep this kind of momentum going with all of our concessions in the country," said Smith.

Built with reinforced concrete and designed with modern bridge building techniques, the Acting Public Works boss said that the two bridges will last for a period of one hundred years if properly maintained.

The dedication ceremony of the two bridges ended with jubilation from a very appreciative corps of citizens who say they thank God for having the Klay and Guie Town bridges restored to them to boost commercial activities in the county.
