The Prosecution 5th witness in the ongoing mercenary case has said he was never tortured by state security to lie on behalf of the Government of Liberia(GoL) in the ongoing Mercenary case at the Temple of Justice.
The Temple of Justice is situated on Capitol Hill, Monrovia.
The case involves the Republic of Liberia... ... .Plaintiff AndNyezee Barway et.al... ... .Defendants. The defendants are charged with the Crime Mercenarism. But they have since denied the charge.
Witness Thomas Gladior was responding to series of questions posed to him by one of the defense's lawyers during a cross examination in court yesterday, July 30, 2013.
Defense lawyer Tiawan Gongloe had asked witness Gladior to clarify as to whether he was the one who was in handcuff crying on the second floor of the Temple of Justice on Monday, July 29, 2013. Defense lawyer Gongloe further inquired from state witness Gladior to comment on claim that he (Gladior) was allegedly paid by government to lie against his kinsmen who are standing trial on the crime mercenary.
But the prosecution witness denied the claims, maintaining that he was never handcuff and tortured to lie on behalf of the state.
However, witness Gladior said he was only stopped by state security from going home as a means of protecting his safety.
He said he decided to go home because he had been receiving threats on his phone allegedly from some of the relatives of the defendants.
"For my own safety, I was told not to go out of the fence. This was intended for my own protection," said the prosecution's witness.
Testifying further, Gladior, who is a correction officer, told the court it was not his will to have his kinsman in jail by arresting them, but he was performing his duty as a correction officer. The witness also pointed that he thinks he could also be the same person to plead on their behalf for their release. The witness named some of the defendants that he gave a tip off for their arrest as Boby sarpee, Nezee Bayway, Edward cole and Rambo in Zwedru
"Nobody loves Grand Gedeh more than me. But for the safety of all Liberians, I had to bring all of my Kinsmen to book," the prosecution witness among other things added.
